We were delighted to be leading a workshop and development program funded and hosted by the United Nations ESCAP in Bangkok, with the first edition in November designed for 20 IPAs including representation from Latin America through the IPA South-South Program, ASEAN Secretariat IPAs as well as other APAC IPAs and invited guests as part of regional capacity development to enhance the development of investable project pipelines and institutional investment. The program bridges the gap between investor interests and the offerings of Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) to attract targeted investors for country-specific major and critical projects, supporting the development of 'investor-ready projects' specific to foreign investors and institutional investors.

Frequently, IPAs focus on broad opportunities, lacking specific, investor-targeted projects and detailed project information. Financial aspects often remain unaddressed, leaving IPAs under-prepared for investors' inquiries. This training equipped IPAs to present well-defined pipelines of investable projects to corporate and institutional investors. Show less

In collaboration with the United Nations ESCAP, and with the invaluable support of the Board of Investment Sri Lanka and the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka, I was proud to deliver a transformative digital FDI project to empower and uplift ten promising tech entrepreneurs based in Sri Lanka.
Through targeted capacity development, mentoring, and comprehensive training, we equipped these entrepreneurs with the knowledge and capabilities they need to not only thrive but also attract discerning international investors. This initiative was a vital step forward in aligning with Sri Lanka's ambitious vision to foster and expand the digital economy.

My role included interviews and assessment of the company competencies, development of the training materials, delivery of the training materials in Colombo as well as individual mentoring ahead of investor meetings. Show less

The panel discussion explored crucial topics such as
- The investor landscape in Sri Lanka.
- Developments and what can be expected in the future
- Existing mechanisms of investing (avenues, governance, etc)
- Thoughts on the evolution of the tech landscape and what can be expected
- Perspectives and suggestions that could further improve the landscape

It is clear having spent the last week immersed in working with some of Sri Lanka's top tech startups and the investment community that there is phenomenal energy, opportunity, and capabilities - the genie is ready to leave the bottle and I look forward to continued friendships and support for the digital investment community in Sri Lanka. I was thrilled to be an integral part of the ASEAN Investment Forum this weekend, representing #WAIPA as the Senior Advisor in Asia Pacific. What an extraordinary event it has been, showcasing seamless collaboration with esteemed partners; #UNESCAP, #BKPM, #ASEANSecretariat, and #Bloomberg in organizing this first ASEAN Investment Forum. Moderating the session on ASEAN Investment Opportunities in Health Systems during the forum was a privilege.

It was a privilege to present a Keynote speech today on behalf of WAIPA at the 2023 International Investment Promotion Forum & 21st Annual Conference of Investment Promotion Agencies of China as part of CIFIT 2023, Xiamen, China to share the opportunities for cross-border collaboration to enhance FDI.

To date the PPPs In Emerging Markets Summit series has hosted over 500 Government participants allowing access to capacity building, sharing of expertise and investment directly to emerging markets.
PPP - Public Private Partnerships are essential in emerging markets to allow the rapid development of critical infrastructure - Housing, Transport, Energy & Power, Healthcare, Water & Waste, Schools and Economic Infrastructure such as Free Trade Zones, Sea & Air Ports as key drivers for developing nations and increasing credibility for FDI and development of key Industries.

Capacity building within emerging markets is essential to create credibility across legislative, political, social, market, and economic environments. Combined with a paradigm shift from traditional project finance models there are new structures and players engaged in major projects such as Bonds, SWF, Islamic Finance and significantly in many emerging markets the role of private sector industries such as O&G, Mining, Agro & Bio Industries as developers and investors into the infrastructure of nations.
The development of PPP and the sharing of best practice is integral to the success of major infrastructure projects in the countries where essential infrastructure is critical to the development of economies and the wellbeing of nations. Show less
